  2. Day 2 Hanoi Through the Eyes of a Local

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

    Overnight: Hanoi

Hanoi is a city best understood slowly.

Today introduces the capital through its history, culture and everyday life, revealing why it continues to captivate visitors from around the world.

Your exploration begins at Tran Quoc Pagoda, Hanoi's oldest Buddhist temple, peacefully situated on a small peninsula extending into West Lake. Dating back more than 1,500 years, it remains one of Vietnam's most important spiritual landmarks.

Continue to the Temple of Literature, founded in 1070 and home to Vietnam's first national university. Wander through elegant courtyards and ancient pavilions while learning about the country's long tradition of scholarship and Confucian education.

Later, visit the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, one of Vietnam's finest museums offering fascinating insights into the customs, architecture and lifestyles of the country's 54 ethnic groups.

After lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant, continue to the historic Ho Chi Minh Complex. Stroll through the landscaped grounds, view the Presidential Palace from outside, visit Ho Chi Minh's modest stilt house and stop at the iconic One Pillar Pagoda, one of Hanoi's best-known symbols.

During the afternoon, experience the city's most atmospheric neighbourhood — the Old Quarter. As you weave through its narrow streets, discover hidden temples, family-run businesses and lively markets that continue traditions established centuries ago by the famous "36 Guild Streets."

Your day concludes with one of Vietnam's most unique cultural performances — the traditional Water Puppet Show, an art form that originated in the flooded rice fields of northern Vietnam nearly a thousand years ago.

Return to your hotel in the early evening.

    Please Note

    • Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is closed every Monday and Friday, each afternoon, and annually for maintenance from approximately mid-June to mid-August.

    Overnight: Ha Long Bay Cruise

Leave Hanoi behind this morning and journey east towards one of Asia's most extraordinary natural landscapes. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ha Long Bay is a spectacular seascape of thousands of limestone islands rising dramatically from emerald waters. Formed over millions of years, its hidden caves, secluded lagoons and forested karsts have inspired legends and travellers alike.

Upon arrival at the cruise terminal around midday, board your selected vessel and settle into your cabin before enjoying lunch as the cruise begins gliding through the bay.

Throughout the afternoon, join a selection of activities offered by your cruise, which may include kayaking, swimming, cave exploration or visiting floating communities, depending on your chosen vessel and weather conditions.

As the day draws to a close, relax on deck with panoramic views of the surrounding limestone formations while the sun sets over the bay.

Dinner is served on board before a peaceful evening anchored amongst the islands.

  5. Day 5 Hidden Hoi An & Living Traditions

    Meals: Breakfast

    Overnight: Hoi An

While Hoi An is renowned for its beautifully preserved Ancient Town, its true character is often found beyond the main streets.

This morning, join your local Travelmates guide for a leisurely exploration that uncovers both the celebrated landmarks and the quieter corners that many visitors overlook.

Stroll through the UNESCO-listed Old Town, where centuries-old merchant houses, colourful assembly halls and narrow lanes tell the story of Hoi An's prosperous trading past. Visit the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge and discover how Chinese, Japanese and European influences have shaped the town's unique architectural character.

Leaving the main tourist routes behind, wander through peaceful backstreets and hidden alleyways where everyday life continues much as it has for generations.

One of today's most memorable encounters is a visit to a local family who have preserved a unique Vietnamese martial arts. Learn how movement, breathing and balance have been used for generations to promote physical wellbeing, and enjoy the opportunity to try a few simple techniques under the guidance of the master.

To conclude the morning, step inside a welcoming family home and enjoy a traditional local dessert while chatting with your hosts—a simple yet authentic glimpse into everyday life in Hoi An.

The afternoon is free to enjoy at your own pace.

You may wish to browse artisan boutiques, relax beside the Thu Bon River, commission bespoke tailoring, or simply soak up the timeless atmosphere as lanterns begin to illuminate the streets towards evening.

  6. Day 6 Hoi An to Saigon

    Meals: Breakfast

    Overnight: Ho Chi Minh City

After breakfast, transfer to Da Nang Airport for your short flight to Ho Chi Minh City, still affectionately known as Saigon by many locals.

Vietnam's largest city is a fascinating blend of old and new, where elegant colonial buildings stand beside sleek skyscrapers, and traditional coffee houses coexist with contemporary art galleries and rooftop bars.

This afternoon, discover the city's historic heart on a guided walking tour.

Begin along Dong Khoi Street, once the grand boulevard of colonial Saigon, passing architectural landmarks including the City Hall, Continental Hotel and the magnificent Opera House.

Step inside one of the city's most creative hidden spaces—a historic apartment building that has been transformed into a vibrant collection of independent cafés, design studios and local boutiques. It offers a fascinating insight into Saigon's youthful and entrepreneurial spirit.

Continue to the beautifully restored Central Post Office, before viewing the former CIA Apartment Building, remembered for its role during the final days of the Vietnam War.

A leisurely stroll through leafy 30 April Park leads to the impressive Reunification Palace, where preserved meeting rooms and underground command bunkers offer a remarkable snapshot of modern Vietnamese history.

Your afternoon concludes at Ben Thanh Market, where colourful stalls showcase everything from fresh produce and spices to handicrafts and local street food.

Return to your hotel with a deeper appreciation of the city that continues to reinvent itself while embracing its rich heritage.

  7. Day 7 The Mekong Delta – Life on the Water

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

    Overnight: Ho Chi Minh City

Leave the energy of Saigon behind this morning as you travel south into the fertile landscapes of the Mekong Delta.

Often referred to as Vietnam's "rice bowl", this vast network of rivers, canals and orchards supports millions of people whose lives remain closely connected to the water.

Arriving in Cai Be, board your private boat and begin exploring one of the Delta's quieter waterways.

Cruise beneath coconut palms and along peaceful canals where wooden boats continue to transport fruit, vegetables and daily supplies between villages.

Step ashore for a leisurely bicycle ride through narrow country lanes bordered by tropical fruit orchards. Along the way, meet local families whose traditional cottage industries continue to produce handmade products using techniques passed down through generations.

Back on the water, transfer to a traditional sampan for a tranquil journey through shaded canals inaccessible to larger boats. The slower pace offers a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the Delta's remarkable natural beauty and rural lifestyle.

Lunch is served in a beautifully preserved ancestral home that has belonged to the same family for more than four generations. Here, enjoy authentic Mekong cuisine prepared with fresh seasonal ingredients before taking a stroll through the surrounding orchard.

During the afternoon, return to Cai Be before driving back to Ho Chi Minh City.

Journey: Ho Chi Minh City to Cai Be 110 km (approximately 2.5 hours each way)

  8. Day 8 Saigon's Coffee Culture & Departure

    Meals: Breakfast

Your final morning offers a different perspective on Saigon—through its enduring love affair with coffee.

Coffee is woven into the fabric of everyday Vietnamese life. From early morning pavement cafés to hidden neighbourhood roasteries, it is as much about conversation and community as it is about the drink itself.

Begin with a walk through a lively residential neighbourhood where locals gather each morning over coffee, newspapers and conversation. This is everyday Saigon at its most authentic.

Visit one of the city's oldest family-run coffee shops, where traditional roasting methods and brewing techniques have been preserved for nearly a century. Learn about the evolution of Vietnam's coffee industry and how the country became one of the world's leading coffee producers.

Continue to a beautifully restored heritage shophouse where specialty Vietnamese coffee is celebrated through both craftsmanship and creativity. Here, discover the story behind one of Vietnam's most iconic beverages—Cà Phê Trứng (Egg Coffee)—before learning how to prepare your own under the guidance of a local coffee specialist.

Hotel check-out is at 12:00 noon.

Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy some free time for last-minute shopping or relaxation before your private transfer to Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

As your Vietnam journey comes to an end, we hope you leave not only with wonderful photographs, but with lasting memories, meaningful connections and a deeper appreciation of the people and places that make this country so unique.
